Twitter implements paid advertising

A little bit ago, Twitter implemented promoted Tweets in Twitter's search results. From now on, companies will be allowed to pay to have their posts appear in search results on social media platforms. With 65% of Fourtune 100 companies on Twitter already, this now gives these companies even more chances to talk and target their respective audiences.

The picture above shows a tweet in real time search for a promotion of Twitter COO, Dick Costolo who was going to be speaking at AdAge Digital about the new Promoted Tweets platform.

What's your feeling about promoted Tweets on Twitter now? Do you think it will hurt your Twitter experience? or impact it in a good way?

"The longer you live on the streets, the harder it is to get off"

This week I found a few more PSA ads that I really liked. Done by Publicis in France, the ads showcase how hard it is for people to get off the streets once they start living on it. I thought the ads were pretty powerful and thought provoking. It makes you think twice about the guy on the corner of the street asking for money.

What are your thoughts about the ads? Do you think Publicis did a good job making people think twice about the homeless? Or do you think it is overdone?

Major Clients/Campaigns:

Staples Easy Button "That was Easy"

Weight Watchers "Hungry"

MasterCard "Priceless"

Dentyne Ice "Friend Request"

So many of the campaigns that came out of this company were commercials that I grew up on. The MasterCard Priceless commercials and the Staple Button "That was easy" have become almost household phrases. Some of these ads truly bring me back to high school or earlier!

Saw these ads in my campaigns class earlier this semester for Alzheimer's. I thought they were pretty powerful and interesting. When done creatively, some PSAs can be absolutely captivating. This campaign was one of the top ones for 2009 commercials.

Are there any other great PSA's you've seen lately that really pulls at your heart like these?

New Tiger Woods Commercial stirs up more backlash

A new Nike Ad featuring Tiger Woods hit the web nearly a week ago and it's already causing a stir amongst social media users. Released right as Tiger Woods prepares to return to the Masters, the ad labeled "Earl and Tiger," features a voice recording of his father who passed away in 2006. Though the ad is very simple, the words from his father speaks to the current sex scandal issues that Tiger Woods is going through.

"Tiger, I am more prone to be inquisitive, to promote discussion. I want to find out what your thinking was. I want to find out what your feelings are. And did you learn anything."

The ad is sure making news, and the social media world is going crazy with creating new parodies, and either voicing their like or distaste in the ads.

Nike has been one of the few endorsers to keep Tiger Woods as a representative for their brand since news broke of the sex scandal. Others such as AT&T, Gatorade and Accenture have since dropped Woods.

What are your thoughts on the ad?

Major Clients/Campaigns

The Gap - "Talk to the Moose"

Old Navy - Supermodelquin Super Search

Something that I really love about the CP+B website is that the entire layout is dedicated to social media done by their fans. Twitter updates are located on one end of the site with fans tweeting parts of their favorite Crispin ads. They have YouTube videos that fans made recreating their take on favorite Crispin Ads. It's a pretty ingenious layout which ties their work and their fans take on their ads.

New Ads for Alka Seltzer by Almap BBDO showcase food attacking back in a humorous way. I thought this was a pretty clever campaign, and pretty funny the way they showcase what certain foods can do to you without taking Alka Seltzer.

Sometimes simplicity is best

Today in my Advertising Campaigns class my professor shared this advertisement with us. It's so so simple yet it has such a huge message. I wish I could find who created this ad, I think it's one of those powerful ads that kind of leaves you speechless at the end.
I also want to know what the agency was thinking when they were given the task of creating an advertisement for wearing your seatbelt... Such a boring subject - yet the end result was better then some really interesting products.
Anyway, you can make the decision yourself if you think Embrace Life - Always wear your seatbelt is a good ad or not.

Turning Luggage Carts into Ways of Persuasion

This is a pretty cool non-traditional advertisement put together by age.comunicações, São Paulo, Brazil. It's for the Action for ADD - Sporting Association for the Disabled. The displays were life size and took place in early January at the Cumbica International Airport in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The creative new ads made it look like people were actually pushing people around in wheel chairs instead of their luggage.

Euro-Durex ads - Controversial? (NSFW)

Some new ads for Durex by German illustrator/designer Andrej Krahne feature typography in a very controversial way. (per his site): "The task: Communicate the joy with Durex. The idea: Don't tell it demonstrate it. The execution: Type shows like X-ray the inner feelings during the act with Durex."

Although the ads may be a little racy - I think it's pretty ingenious and interesting. Ads for condoms and other similar products have always had to come up with creative and interesting ways to sell their product and show their use without being to graphic or racy. The media has always been more critical in the US then in the Europe - and there's no way Ads like these would ever fly in America.
